Dear Jerry,

Attached please find a copy of the "book jacket" on my forthcoming book, Unknown Waters. Recognize who is standing next to me? I have included Ralph Beedle on this e-mail, but am not sure I have his correct e-mail address. Also attached please find a brief synopsis. Please feel free to put these on Queenfish's web site plus the additional info below. Great "book jacket comments" have already come in from Admirals John Nicholson and George Steele, plus Dr. Don Walsh (took Trieste to bottom of Mariannas Trench with Piccard in 1960) and Clive Cussler (writer of "Raise the Titanic,"etc. plus discoverer of the Confederate sub Hunley). The book is scheduled to reach book dealers/stores as early as February 2008. It will be selling for $29.95. As stated earlier, it will be my pleasure and honor to provide each SUBICEX 1-70 crew member with their own inscribed copy, free of charge. I will just need a self-addressed stamped envelope of sufficient size to hold a 300 page book.

I will also be doing a number of "book signings" throughout the U.S. during 2008. Perhaps one can be set up the coincides with the Queenfish reunion in San Diego? I will just need the dates for the reunion and where it will take place as soon as available.

Since I will be receiving just enough copies to cover the Queenfish 1970 Arctic Expedition crew plus family and close friends, I will be honored to sign/inscribe copies for all Queenfish crew members if they will send me the copy/copies purchased that they would like inscribed with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Best regards,

Fred

Book Synopsis

UNKNOWN WATERS

A Firsthand Account of the Historic Under-Ice Survey of the Siberian Continental Shelf by USS Queenfish (SSN-651)

Alfred S. McLaren, Captain, USN (Ret.), Ph.D.

Foreword by Captain William R. Anderson, USN (Ret.)

This book tells the spell-binding story of the officers and men of the nuclear attack submarine USS Queenfish (SSN-651) who at the height of the Cold War explored the dangerous, uncharted, shallow, ice-covered waters of the vast Siberian continental shelf for the first and only time in history. The expedition’s success earned Queenfish and her crew the Navy Unit Citation and her captain a Legion of Merit.
